Mount Batur Sits In A Supervolcano High walls of the old supervolcano next to Lake Batur Geologists believe that Mount Batur sits inside a supervolcano which used to be around 3.500m above sea level. A huge explosion took out most of the mountain which collapsed into an empty magma chamber. This happened around 23.000-29.000 years ago.
